Whether it's your first time or your 50th time, gearing up or planning the first big trip of the season. We got you covered with our complete pre-season snowmobile checklist.

First, we start with the snowmobile itself; here are a few maintenance tips to get everything running smoothly:

  1. Check your battery to make sure it is holding a proper charge
  2. Clean and inspect your belt and clutches; if needed, replace your belt
  3. Tighten spark plugs. You want them to be just a little bit more than finger tight
  4. Inspect and maybe replace your track. The following are indicators that your track needs to be replaced; dry-rotted rubber, missing lugs, worn or torn tracks, and missing track clips
  5. Refer to the manual on how to check and inspect for leaks. Refer to manual for proper chain case tension. Top off all fluids as needed and refresh chaincase oil.
  6. Use a tension gauge to check track tension. You are looking for 1.25” with 16 lb. of tension in the center of the track
  7. If your slider shoe (or hyfax) is worn it will need to be replaced
  8. You may need to replace your idler wheels and bearings, and don't forget about checking your carbides
  9. To ensure you will not have handling issues, check your ski stance
  10. Ensure all lights are working properly

Now that we have maintenance out of the way, here is what you need on hand in case you decide to venture further than your backyard:

  • Extra oil
  • Spare drive belt
  • Tools for your machine
  • Spare spark plugs
  • Tow rope
  • Shovel
  • An emergency kit that includes, flashlight, blankets, snacks (for energy), and something to start a fire.
